Hoi An is a sleepy village in central Vietnam - so small that the streets are blissfully free of traffic. It is full of tailoring shops that make made-to-measure clothes for tourists in 24 hours (I had a pair of palazzo pants and a long silk skirt made) and there are a few museums and old houses you can visit.
But it's in the evenings that Hoi An really comes alive. The trees are full of glowing paper lanterns, the river is lit up and if you're lucky, performance of traditional dances take place. There are many great restaurants, where you can sit outside, fill up on delicious Vietnamese fare and soak up the atmosphere with a bottle of La Rue beer.
